NAZA GROUP IS JELAJAH 1MALAYSIA’S ASIAN JERSEY MAIN SPONSOR FOR 2011

SELANGOR 1 MARCH 2011 - NAZA World, Chevrolet and Eftra Group today became one of the main sponsors of Jelajah 1Malaysia 2011, the oldest cycling event in the country.
Jelajah 1Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Haji Naim Mohamad, presented the Asian Jersey to NAZA Group of Companies Joint Group Executive Chairman Datuk Wira Haji SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin as the race main sponsor.
The event, which also included the presentation of mock keys for the 54 Chevrolet Captiva SUVs as well as 55 Harley Davidson motorcycles, was witnessed by Youth and Sports Minister YB Dato' Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
The Asian Jersey, which is presented to the main sponsor, will be worn by the Asian Champion. This years' race theme 'Jelajah 1Malaysia - Jelajah Rakyat', will see participants racing to complete 6 stages over 6 days, beginning 8th March 2011.
"NAZA World, Chevrolet and EFTRA are the three NAZA brands that are proud to be associated with Jelajah 1Malaysia, which is one of the most prestigious cycling event in the region," Datuk Wira Haji SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin said.
"As a Malaysian conglomerate, it is our duty and responsibility to support and promote Malaysian events which reflect healthy and sporty lifestyles. Furthermore, it is also a great opportunity for us to promote our country, our culture and our way of life to the sporting world and an amazing platform to excite and encourage young Malaysians to pick up cycling. We believe that sports have the power to unite people from all over the world and that is a positive activity for all age," he added.
NAZA's support in promoting two-wheel sporting events and to make Malaysia a tourism hub for such activities were strongly reflected in its inaugural South East Asia Harley Owners Group Rally in June 2010 and the first Asia Ducati Week in October 2010, which drew owners of these two international motorcycle brands from all over the globe to experience the wonders that Malaysia had to offer.
The 54 Chevrolet Captiva will be used by the Jelajah 1Malaysia secretariat and the media to cover the race which will start from Johor, through Pahang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan while the Harley Davidson motorcycles will create pre-race excitement in the form of a mini-cavalcade 30 minutes before the race begins at each of its 6 stages.
The organiser of Jelajah 1Malaysia welcomes the contribution from NAZA World as it is a timely contribution from the automotive giant, which is also a national pride of the country.
Since Jelajah 1Malaysia event was launched in 1963 to coincide with the Merdeka celebrations, it has grown by leaps and bounds and is the oldest cycling event that is a platform for young local cyclists to develop and hone their skills in stage racing.
The event is ranked in the 2.2 class category by the Union Cyclist International (UCI).
