KUALA LUMPUR–Naza Group of Companies Joint Group Executive Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer, SM Nasaruddin SM Nasimuddin was elected as the President of the Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC) for the term 2016-2019, effectiveJanuary 2016. He was appointed at the 18th MPC Annual General Meeting, held recently.

Being very passionate and a sports enthusiast himself, SM Nasarudin looks forward to giving his best and contribute efforts to engaging with the new committee and the para athletes.

SM Nasarudin said, “While I deliberated and thought about it at great length, I cannot deny the fact that sports is one of the things I am very passionate about. What more, seeing how aggressive sports has been promoted by the Ministry, giving similar priority and focus towards athletes with a range of disability as well, namely the Malaysian Paralympic council. I have to say that I am conscious of the duties and tasks ahead. These responsibilities are with trepidation and excitement as I lean forward to take up the position as President of the Paralympic Council of Malaysia. There is much to be done at the ground level in MPC. With the impending Paralympic Games 2016 around the corner, we need to create an opportunity far bigger than before and promote a positive and progressive attitude towards para sports.”

SM Nasarudin also expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports that has been promoting the concept of sports for all. Led by YB KhairyJamaluddin, the Ministry has successfully increased social participation in sports to a different level, which was evidently seen during the HariSukan Negara in October, 2015 last year.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, YB KhairyJamaluddin expressed confidence in the appointment of SM Nasarudin as the President of MPC. “I congratulate SM Nasarudin on his appointment in MPC. I hope that his experience as a top corporate figure will transform and elevate MPC into a higher level, and that he will instill values of good governance and high performance,” said YB Khairy.

With the continued support from the Sports Ministry, En SM Nasarudin sees MPC will move forward, bolder and create greater significance on the world stage, thus bring honour to the country.
