KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs – The NAZA Group of Companies is the new distributor for the Chevrolet brand in Malaysia.
The Group signed a Distributor Sales and Service Agreement for the Chevrolet brand of vehicles here today, to become the sole and exclusive authorized distributor in Malaysia.
The Agreement was signed between the NAZA Group of Companies’ Joint Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Haji SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, and General Motors South East Asia Operations President Steve Carlisle, and witnessed by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed.
Under the agreement, the Group will establish and maintain a network of dealers to promote, sell and service Chevrolet vehicles, including the sale of parts and accessories.
The two parties are currently discussing the possibility of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly operations of certain Chevrolet vehicles, through the Group’s assembly plant in Gurun, Kedah.
NAZA Group of Companies Joint Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Haji SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin described the landmark signing as a way forward for the Group to offer a wider choice of vehicles to Malaysians, besides bringing in the best technology has to offer, and from a reputable and established brand name like Chevrolet.
“The signing with General Motors displays NAZA’s commitment in the motor business. We are pleased to be associated with the world’s established car company like GM and I hope this partnership will bear fruit, benefitting both parties into the future.
“We will explore all possibilities of not only ensuring profitability, but also to turn it into a very successful business proposition,” he said.
SM Faisal added that the possibility of locally assembling Chevrolet vehicles in Malaysia brought interesting prospects as it further solidifies NAZA’s aim of providing premium products and services to Malaysians, in addition to placing Malaysia as the hub for Chevrolet cars within the region.
General Motors South East Asia Operations President Steve Carlisle noted, “With NAZA’s position in the Malaysian automotive industry, as well as its capability, track record and forward-looking corporate philosophy, I am confident we have found the right partner with whom we can focus on working towards our mutual goals of growth and expansion in the Malaysian market.”
He added, “We aim to provide only the best to Malaysian consumers through access to new world-class products and powertrains that are leaders in technology, fuel economy and quality, and top-class after-sales service and customer support.”
As Chevrolet vehicles are represented in most market segments, Pavilion Crest plans to carry the full line-up of these vehicles. Spearheading the product portfolio is the Chevrolet Cruze, a 1.8-litre sedan that is sure to capture many hearts.
Malaysia currently has 8 dealerships and Pavilion Crest aims to increase this to 18 by year’s end, with the distributors planning 5 of its very own branches. All 18, which will be 3S facilities, will be established across Malaysia.
